Los Ombues Lodge

Los Ombues has been guiding our clients with consistent excellence for over 25 years. The experience and ease of access to the lodge make it an easy choice for year-round shooting.

The Shooting

Los Ombues is best known for their spectacular mixed bag shooting. There are tens of thousands of acres of untouched marsh and farm land to shoot on. Unlike other lodges, they shoot 3 species every day during mixed bag season (May through mid-August). The groups wake up early for the duck shooting, they have a light breakfast waiting for everybody and then take you down to the boat ramp a couple of hundred yards below the lodge and out into the marsh. The boat rides are from 5 minutes to 20 minutes depending on the time of the season and weather. Once the duck shoot is over, they take you back to the lodge where brunch is waiting when you arrive. Shortly after brunch they take everybody perdiz shooting. Perdiz over dogs are great quarry and challenging to shoot. The drives are usually less than 10 minutes. Once everybody shoots their limit, you return to the lodge for lunch, a siesta and then everybody heads out around 2:30 – 3 pm to shoot doves the rest of the afternoon. The drives to the dove fields are usually 5-15 minutes. Most shooters average 15-18 boxes per afternoon. If you want to shoot mixed bag it is best to plan 9 months to a year ahead. There are very few cancellations and space is limited with the short mixed bag season.

High volume dove shooting begins in October and runs through April. In October and November the winter wheat is ready to harvest and the doves go crazy over the crops. After the wheat is cut, the doves are back to their usual habits. Most shooters average 40-50 boxes per day however, you can shoot as little or as much as you want. The doves are everywhere all Spring and Summer and short drives – usually 5-15 minutes. If you are looking for a winter getaway Los Ombues is the perfect destination. There is a pool and lots of sunshine in the Summer months. The doves are a hidden secret this time of year because most Americans are doing other things all fall and winter. At Los Ombues this is prime time because there is little to no pressure on the birds.

We can easily combine the dove shooting with a fly-fishing trip to Patagonia for Rainbow & Brown Trout or a trip in the same area as Los Ombues to fly fish for Golden Dorado from October through April. This is one of our most popular trip options.

The Lodge

Los Ombues sits on a hill overlooking a beautiful 30,000 acre marsh. There are 8 double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms at the lodge. The lodge is 12,000 square feet and plenty of room to spread out even with larger groups of 10-14 shooters. They have a big patio, a great pool, and outdoor dining when the weather is nice.

Getting There

Your trip starts with an easy overnight flight from the US to Buenos Aires. All flights depart between 7:30 and 11 pm. There are daily flights from Houston, Dallas, Miami, New York and Atlanta. Once you clear customs at Ezeiza Airport the lodge’s representative will meet you and either put you on the van for the 4.5 hour drive to the lodge (or) take you into the city and overnight. The drive is easy and straight up an interstate.  No overnight is required, it’s up to the group if you’d like to see the city. If the group wants to arrive early and spend a night in Buenos Aires, we can easily facilitate that, book tours and dinner reservations.

If you prefer to charter it’s 75 minutes and you can depart from Ezeiza airport. In that case the charter company will meet you outside of customs and drive you 10 minutes to the private hangars. We will add the cost of the lodge transfers / city transfers / tours (if required) to each shooter’s final invoice 2-3 months before departure. If you charter, we will add the cost to each shooter’s invoice. The charter price varies by what aircraft is chosen. There is a grass landing strip next to the lodge.
